DivXLand Media Subtitler is a subtitle maker and editor. It can open and save in thirty different subtitle formats and it has a multimedia player built-in for easy timing and synchronization. The player requires Windows Media Player 9, and it will be able to open any file that WMP can play on your system.
There are three different captioning modes: press and hold, manual mode, and preview only. The first one allows you to press a button and hold it to set the times that a certain subtitle should stay on screen. It is a great way of setting times on an already existing subtitle. The manual mode allows you to use the keyboard hotkeys to set start and end times and to go to the following or previous caption lines (subtitles). Preview only allows you to preview your subtitle with the built-in media player.
I have noticed that it is extremely complicated to add new subtitles to a video. Every single time you add a new caption line, the application asks you to input some text into it. The whole process would be way easier if you could just use a keyboard shortcut to add new lines or, if, in the press and hold mode, after you release the button, a new line would be added ready for timing. This is just a problem when you are creating subtitles from scratch. Editing subtitles is really easy.
All in all, DivXLand Media Subtitler is a good tool for editing subtitles, but could use some tweaks here and there to make the creation of subtitles a much easier task.
